Exploring Math and Building Activities through the Fairy tales.

We would like to thank parents and children for attending the Student-Led conferences last week Saturday! It was great to see how excited the children were to share their journey of learning with their parents! Thank you for taking an active part on this special day!
Now let’s take a look at all the fun things that have been happening this week!

The Oak students are still continuing to explore the fairy tale "Jack and the Beanstalk". The observations of our magic beans have also continued this week! In the mornings they have been curious to find their magic bean on the window sill and see how big it has grown during the night!  Students have also developed concepts in math small-medium-big- by comparing their planted magic beans! Math can also be found in fairy tales!
Children also enjoyed working on creative tasks by creating castles and beanstalks from the sticky foam material. On Thursday our art teacher Ms.Valda visited us, and the children created colourful Christmas trees. Besides the art projects, the children explored patterns and developed their fine motor skills by wrapping colourful knitted snails during circle time!
This week a new student joined us! Welcome, Eva!  We are happy to have you in our Oak class!

A new friend Melissa – 4 years – joined our group! You are welcome to grow together with us! Melissa brought in a new experience in building the centre. The children made amazing constructions!
The Maple children applied their thinking skills by completing a new puzzle “The Mitten”. It was great to see older students helping smaller ones to put it together!
Boys found a new strategy to learn shapes – they became “Shape men”. This self-made approach became a great success! Please, see the pictures.

This week in Linden we read the story of the three little pigs. We have been using puppets to retell the story, and we have made the little pigs houses. We have also designed our own mask to tell the story.
We have been using the interactive whiteboard and the tablets to work with numbers 1 to 5 and 1 - 10. We have been exploring the number 3 and what it looks like in quantity.

This week was also a very special week in Linden class as there were many acts of kindness towards one another. There was also many lovely friendship moments in our class.
