Happy 98th Birthday to you, Latvia!

This week the Early Years students were busy preparing for the Independence Day celebration. On Monday morning during our preschool assembly, they found out why the Latvian flag is red and white.
Children also practised singing the national anthem and “Tu Esi Latvija”.
How can we celebrate Latvia’s birthday without cake? We can’t! So Students were happy to paint and decorate layers of the birthday cake. Happy birthday to you Latvia!

Reminder: The school will be closed for the National holiday on Friday, November 18th.

Oak.
Besides getting ready to celebrate Latvia’s birthday, the Oak students also continued to explore the fairy tale "Jack and the Beanstalk" and were eager to plant their own magic beans. Now they just need to wait and see when their magic beans will start to grow!

Maple.
Maple group students were excited to discover mittens on the table this week. They put them on and looked for the same pair of mittens. Being creative, students created their own mittens from a variety of materials in the art centre. These explorations went perfectly with the fairy tale the children found in the storytelling centre – “The Mitten”. All the children were observed acting out the story using little props!

Linden.
In Linden this week we read the story “Froggy gets dressed”. We have been working on getting more independent and organised dressing and undressing for outside time. We sang the song five little-speckled frogs and made some frogs for art. We also had fun learning a bit more about the beautiful country we live in and call home for now. We made flags and a paper cake for Latvia’s birthday.

Reminder: Older students are going on a field trip to the Forest at ‘Bumbu Kalniņš’ on Monday, 21st November. They will leave the school at 9:15 am and will come back at approximately 2.00 p.m. Please pack two pairs of waterproof mittens in your child's backpack for the forest. They should have a set of dry clothes and socks in their cubbies for when they return to school. This time of year is very cold and wet in the forest the children must be dressed warmly with appropriately waterproofed clothes.
