Enjoying the Magic of Fairy Tales and Stories!

We hope you and your family had a lovely autumn break! We are happy to see our students being happy and enjoying the school! This week has gone so fast! On Monday the older children of the Early Years went to the Forest within the Forest programme and were exploring math through the nature voyage. Together with their teachers they went on a forest scavenger hunt and came back carrying baskets full of different treasures. Students were exploring the weight of each forest treasure by weighing and comparing them. Please, see the pictures!

We have started a new unit of inquiry “Once upon a time”.  It has been an exciting week in each class of the Early Years:

Oak.
The Oak students were curious to discover their new unit of inquiry "Once Upon A Time" by playing with finger puppets and being engaged in creative play. It's great to see their creativity and imagination developing through their own made-up stories!

Linden.
In Linden this week we had lots of fun exploring our classroom. There are exciting new resources and activities in our class. We have enjoyed our new timetable which allows us more time with our own teachers. This week we have started our unit “Once upon a time” and we enjoyed reading our friend's favourite stories from home. We had fun playing at the sensory table with the rice and the 3 Bears bowls and spoons. We were very excited to find a box of dress-up clothes. It was great to see the amazing bridges that the children were making in the block corner after looking at photos of real bridges around the world. In SFA we worked with letter sounds /p/ and /g/.

Maple.

Maple group children were excited to explore the new classroom environment: a castle with knights and horses, storytelling corner, sensory center with pies, dress up box, big castle box and new books in our classroom library. The children were happy to share their books with favourite stories and fairy-tales they brought from home. They slowly began to make connections between classroom environment and our Unit of Inquiry. The children listened and watched the fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea” and started to act out the story using self-made puppets, drawings and props. This week we listened to two letters sounds - P and G.

Reminder: We are looking forward to seeing you all next Thursday, 10th of November, for the "Early Literacy and Mother Tongue Development" event in the preschool Yellow room! This event will start at 8:30am.

Exploring Autumn And Colours Around Us!

This week in the forest we went on a leaf scavenger hunt. The preschoolers each had a sheet with different types of leafs that they then had to find in the forest. They had to find big, long, little, fat, green, brown, yellow, nibbled, and curled leafs.  We took some leafs back to school to show our friends. We made leaf rubbings with the big leafs. After our hunt, we had some very delicious porridge that the KG students made on the fire.

Oak:
Another exciting school week has gone by in the Oak classroom! Children were so curious to explore colours through science projects! They were amazed to see the result of mixing different colours and discovering a variety of shades at the end of the science experiment! What a fun way to explore various liquids and chemical reactions and colours around us!

Linden:
This week in Linden we had fun exploring the different types of leafs our friends brought from the forest. We also took part in some name writing activities. We have been working hard at being independent. All of the Linden students can now dress and undress themselves for outside playtime. We have also been working hard at sharing and playing together nicely. We made some great towers in our block corner. Jakub built a tower that was taller than Hanna.

Maple:
Maple children were happy to have forest treasures brought back by the big children from the forest. Smaller children looked at the autumn leaves and colours and made a big leaf of their choice using colourful tea - sure paper. Children continued to build in construction center, and we were happy to see that they added a few characters to their play. We are looking forward to exploring fairy tales!

Reminder: Older students are going on a field trip to the forest at ‘Bumbu Kalniņš’ on Monday, 24th October. They will leave the school at 9:15 am and will come back at approximately 2:00 pm.

We look forward to our next unit of inquiry "Once Upon A Time", which will begin straight after our Autumn Break on Monday, October 24th (no school from 17-21 October). We wish all of you a wonderful Autumn break! See every one of you on the 24th of October!
