17 June 2016

School’s out for summer! But before we leave, we still have some wonderful moments of this exciting last week to share with you.

On Tuesday we all went to the beach in Vakarbuļļi. The children were delighted with all the sand and the excited playground on the site. What a wonderful way to round up the year all together!

We received a donation from grade 4P this week. They had two full bags of ingredients left over from their science week projects this year and donated them to the Early Year for making play dough. Thank you so much for thinking of us!

On Thursday, we celebrated Līgo, the Latvian midsummer celebration, together with the whole school community. How we enjoyedl those flowers, folk costumes, the bonfire, dances and songs!

Thank you to all our readers, we hope you have enjoyed following our children’s learning journey this school year. It has been a very unusual year, introducing the mixed age groups and moving into the new building. But we are all very happy with the results of these changes and extremely proud of all our children. And wow, have they grown! :)

Have a wonderful summer! To those who are leaving - farewell and good luck, we will miss you! To those who stay - see you after the summer break!

10 June 2016

Upcoming dates:

  • On Tuesday, 14th June 2016,  we will go on our last field trip of this school year to the beach in Vakarbuļļi. Please make sure your child is dressed accordingly and has a picnic style snack. For more information please see the email.

  • On Thursday, 16th June 2016, you are all very welcome to join us at 1:30 pm to celebrate Jāņi, the traditional Latvian summer solstice celebration.

  • On Friday, 17th June 2016, we will have a little Early Years graduation party for our oldest students who will go to Kindergarten next school year. You are all kindly invited to join us at 2:00 pm in the classrooms and/or at 2:30 pm for a whole preschool parade around our new building.

This Monday the big day of our Early Years Mini Beast Assembly had finally come! The children felt like real stars in their mini beast costumes and were very courageous singing and dancing in front of a big audience. Thanks to all the parents for coming and supporting us and well done, children!

At the end of the assembly we received a surprised present. Thank you to our big friends from Grade 8 for making geo boards for us as part of your Unit on Responsibility! We love them!

On Tuesday we went on the last forest trip of the school year. The children truly enjoyed being in the outdoors, got really creative building houses and showed off their courage climbing trees and swooshing down the zip line Mr Sandijs had set up for them.

Back in school, our students continued to reflect on our last Unit of Inquiry. Their drawings and paintings and their interests in all those little creepy crawlies outside clearly demonstrate just how much they have become experts in the field of mini beasts.

Last but not least, Maple have one more big boy in their class now. Riku turned 3! Happy Birthday!
