The Toddlers and Preschoolers had a very busy week getting ready for the Winter Wonderland performance. Children confidently performed A Chubby Little Snowman, written by our very own Preschool 1b teacher Ms Zoja.Perhaps this song will continue to be popular during the winter break:

A chubby little snowman
Had a carrot nose
Along came a bunny
And what do you suppose
That hungry little bunny,
Looking for his lunch,
Ate the snowman’s carrot nose
Nibble, nibble, CRUNCH!

A chubby little snowman
Had two raisin eyes
Along flew a robin
And what do you suppose
That hungry little robin,
Looking for his lunch,
Ate two little raisin eyes
Nibble, nibble, CRUNCH!

A chubby little snowman
Had a buttons made of nuts
Along ran a squirrel
And what do you suppose
That hungry little squirrel
Looking for her lunch,
Ate all buttons made of nuts
Nibble, nibble, CRUNCH!

A chubby little snowman
He is our friend
Along came the children
And took him by the hand.
They brought some nuts for buttons
New eyes and carrot nose.
Stay happy little snowman
And we’ll be happy too!

During the week children also practicing their cutting, gluing, lacing and colouring skills as they engaged in a variety of activities including: making Christmas cards; snowmen, gingerbread people, and snow and other winter scene pictures; bracelets; and gingerbread cookies.

One fourth birthday was celebrated in Preschool 1a. Happy birthday Keita! And a farewell for Preschool1b student, Lucy. Good luck Lucy, we will miss you!

Five Surprises for Santa Claus

What a wonderful assembly we had today!!!  All children did a great job and it was amazing to see so many parents and families J Now it can’t be long until Santa Claus brings presents to the little elves!

Another big event is taking place next week: the Winter Wonderland show Thursday, December 11th at 1.30pm in the gym.  Along with this, the PTO is organizing a Bazaar which will open from the early morning already.  See you there!

Toddlers

There was a surprise for Toddlers and the whole school in the hallway this week! The little ones were surprised to see a big Christmas tree! They made lovely Christmas decorations with lots of glitters and were so excited to decorate the tree! On Tuesday children created the winter orchestra and played songs with bells in Music lesson. Toddlers, together with other Preschool classes, were busy getting ready for the preschool Friday assembly. The little ones turned into little snowflakes and angels and took a part in the Christmas fairy tale! They also learnt to express their feelings by matching photos of their faces to pictures of feelings (happy, sad, angry, sleepy…). On Friday Toddlers said Goodbye to our student-teacher Ms Vanessa. She is travelling back to Germany. We wish you all the best! Thank you for being here with us and helping Toddlers!

Preschool  1a

The Preschool 1A children have had a busy week with further exploration of the Unit of Inquiry. We have been reviewing the various fairy tales we have been learning over the past weeks (Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Cinderella, The Three Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf, The Mitten, and Rapunzel) and sharing which ones are our favourite fairy tales and reasons why.  We also read and watched The Princess and the Pea (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waw0U9tKpW0) and liked to feel how hard the little pea (we used a local Latvian dried brown pea) was under the twenty mattresses high bed!
We liked making sparkly and colourful shape prince and princess crowns and continued to review the circle, square, rectangle, triangle and stars. Some other crafts we will made in the classroom included decorations for the school tree as well as a patterning exercise during Art class with Ms Valda. During the week we also staged “The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf” and presented this to the Preschool 1b children. This was so much fun!
Ms Rūta has been busy with helping us polish-up our Assembly performance which we enjoyed presenting to the whole school and families.  It was lots of fun and thank you to those who were able to participate in this event. We are looking forward to our next event and your attendance on Thursday 11th December at 13.30pm.

Preschool 1b

On Monday our classroom held a surprise for the children. Over the weekend it had turned into a winter wonderland with festive decorations. In order to make it look even better everyone became busy working on chubby little snowman projects both during morning project time and in Art class with Ms Valda. Please come and see the wonderful results of her “My turn – your turn” drawing class in the preschool hallway!

This week was also full of playacting again. Our friends from Preschool 2 came to see our show of “The Mitten” (Our young actors are getting more and more professional every time!), we visited Preschool 1a who staged “The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf” for us and of course many rehearsals made the highlight of the week, our assembly, a great success!

On Wednesday and Thursday we had two great birthday parties! Anna and Sofija turned four and each enjoyed their special birthday circle time. We in turn enjoyed the yummy treats they shared with their classmates! Happy Birthday!

Preschool 2

During this week we have been busy with making Christmas decorations for our school’s Christmas tree.  You should go and have a look at it!  It is big and beautiful!!!
As a part of our PYP unit we have written our own fairy tale.  We started with discussions about settings, characters and props we wanted to include.  Once that was done, we told the fairy tale to our teachers who wrote it down.

Another activity this week was baking and decorating our gingerbread cookies.  Along with this we focussed on the fairy tale about the Gingerbread man which we read several times and acted it out with some soft toys.

Last but not least we have been opening one of our stockings every day to see what surprise is hidden in it.  So far we have gotten: stickers, a movie, candies, and our all times favourite dance Tooty Taa.
