Nursery Rhymes

This week students have been reflecting upon the last two Units of Inquiry:
I am a Preschooler and Nursery Rhymes to prepare for the Saturday November 23rd Student Led Conferences.

Toddlers have been busily getting ready for their Student Led Conferences. In the mornings they worked on different projects related to our Nursery Rhymes - the classroom is now decorated with Incy wincy spiders, Baa baa black sheep, Humpty Dumpties and other characters. We have practiced singing the Nursery Rhymes and even learned a new one:

This little piggy went to the market,
    This little piggy stayed home,
This little piggy had jam and bread,
    This little piggy had none,
And this little piggy cried wee wee wee all the way home.

Everybody is excited to share their learning with their parents during the Student Led Conferences tomorrow!

Preschool 1
Throughout the week the Preschool 1 students continued their diligent work on their mini book:  One, Two, Buckle My Shoe… and practiced their fine motor colouring, cutting and pasting skills with numbers: 5,6,7,8,9, and 10.  The students counted eight sticks and finished the mini book with combining pieces to make a big fat hen!  Students learned a new version of Incy Wincy Spider during the Library lesson with Ms Legzdiņa.  Itsy Bitsy Spider liked to move about to different places in the house like the kitchen wall, the rocking chair, the pail…  Next week we will look at a few new nursery rhymes!

Preschool 2
On Tuesday morning the students drew wonderful pictures of Riga and added some glitter for fireworks. They also shared their experiences from the celebration around the city during the long weekend, for instance, watching the military parade and fireworks, visiting the “Staro Riga’’ (the festival of lights) and having play dates with friends.  We have been busy preparing for the Student Led Conferences by practicing with a partner to sing the rhymes we have learned and share all the rest of the work they will present on Saturday. On Thursday, we went to the forest for the last time this semester. The children built a long Humpty Dumpty wall using some sticks, sand, moss, tree bark and pine cones. Then they used a pinecone as the humpty Dumpty and acted the rhyme out. We enjoyed some hot chocolate made on fire right before saying our “good-byes” to the forest and coming back to school.

We look forward to seeing you at the Student Led Conferences!
